About The Providence Marathon

The Providence Marathon traces its roots back to 2008 as the Cox Sports Marathon created by Eident Marketing. The race quickly became a celebration of the running community and a way to showcase the beauty of the city. With the collaboration of local running clubs, officials, and volunteers, the inaugural marathon took place attracting participants from across the region.

The race was renamed the Providence Rhode Island Races in 2016, which was then rebranded as the Providence Marathon & Half Marathon as the event continued to expand. Now, the race is the largest marathon and half marathon in the state of Rhode Island, with almost 6,000 runners from all over the country and world participating in the 2023 event!

Running the Providence Marathon is more than just a day of fun within your community. In 2023, the race raised over $56,000 for Make-A-Wish® Massachusetts and Rhode Island, helping fulfill the dreams of numerous local children with terminal illnesses. However, charity involvement is not the only way this race supports the local community. It also contributes to the local economy by showcasing the city’s stunning landscapes, historic landmarks, and rich culture. Drawing participants from far and wide, the race generates a significant economic impact on the city of Providence.
