2024 Providence Marathon & Half Marathon Cancellation FAQs

What happened to the 2024 Providence Marathon?

Despite our best efforts working with local leaders, the 2024 Providence Marathon & Half Marathon has been canceled due to unforeseen challenges, including the closure of the Washington Bridge.

The safety and security of participants is our priority, and while we were unable to secure an adequate route this year, we hope to see you in 2025!

Is a virtual run still an option?

Virtual runs are also canceled for 2024. Please follow the steps below to request a refund or transfer to another race.

How do I request a refund?

To request a refund:

  • Login to your EnMotive accoun.
  • Once you’re logged in, click Registrations on the left menu, then locate your 2024 Providence Marathon registration.
  • Once you locate your registration, click the three dots at the top right, then click View Registration.
  • On your registration page, click Edit, next to Category, then select refund.
  • Repeat the process for each participant registered on your account for the 2024 Providence Marathon.

Participants who select a refund will receive their registration fees processed back to the original card used for purchase from EnMotive. In the event the refund cannot be processed to the original payment method, a check will be mailed to the address listed in your registration. For all refunds, please allow up to 60 days from submission to be received.

If you contributed to Make-A-Wish at the time of registration, your funds have already been donated. However, if you would like your charitable contribution refunded as well, please email
info@providencemarathon.com.

I was training and want to still participate in a race, is that possible?

Yes, you may transfer your registration to another 2024 Ventures Endurance event. Options include:

To make your selection:

  • Login to your EnMotive accoun.
  • Once you’re logged in, click Registrations on the left menu, then locate your 2024 Providence Marathon registration.
  • Once you locate your registration, click the three dots at the top right, then click View Registration.
  • On your registration page, click Edit next to Category, then choose the option to transfer your registration to another event and select the event you wish to participate in.
  • Repeat the process for each participant registered on your account for the 2024 Providence Marathon.

Where can I check to see if I'm registered?

You can check online.

How do I update my registration info?

All changes to your registration, besides the runner’s name, can be made free of charge. Simply log in to your Enmotive account to change it. Instructions on accessing/creating your account.

Can I transfer my registration (bib) to another person?

To Transfer Your Registration to Another Runner:

  1. The original runner must log into their Enmotive account and scroll down to find their existing race registration under “Current and Upcoming Events.”
  2. Click the blue “Actions” button to the right of the race name, and then “Transfer Registration.”
  3. Enter the new runner’s email address to begin the transfer process.
  4. The new runner will then receive an email from Enmotive with a link to complete the transfer.
  5. After clicking the transfer link in the Enmotive email, scroll down to click the green “Accept transfer” button.
  6. Complete the registration process, and pay the $10 transfer fee.
  7. Once completed, the new runner will receive an email confirmation, and the original runner will receive an email confirming their registration has been cancelled.

If the transaction is not completed by the new runner within 48 hours of the email sent, the transfer request is cancelled, and the registration will remain in the original runner’s name.

Can I move up or down a category?

Yes. You may switch from one race to another as long as the race that you’re switching to isn’t already sold out.

  1. To do so, simply log into your account (you may need to reset your password first).
  2. Once you’re logged in, you’ll see your upcoming race on the right-hand side of the screen.
  3. Click “View registration.” You’ll see your current race distance under “Category.”
  4. Just click “Edit,” choose the distance you’d like to switch to.
  5. You’ll be prompted to review the rest of your registration, and re-sign the waiver for the new distance.

If you’re switching up to the half marathon or down to the full marathon, then you’ll be required to pay the difference in price. We don’t offer refunds for the difference in price when switching down to the half marathon. Instructions on accessing/creating your Enmotive account.

Can I transfer to another race?

Unfortunately no deferrals are allowed for this race unless cancelled. However, your ticket can be transferred to another runner for $10. For more information, please email info@providencemarathon.com.

What is your refund policy?

All sales are final. No refunds will be given, unless you are registered for a live race and the live race is cancelled by the event organizer due to COVID-19 or any of its variants (the “Pandemic”) and/or governmental restrictions put in place as a result of or in connection with the Pandemic which make the live race unfeasible or impractical to run, in which case refunds will be given in accordance with the policy outlined in the FAQ titled What happens if the event is cancelled?. A date or venue change is not a cancellation.

Can I register on race day?

Online registration closes at 12PM the day before the race.

Are course maps available?

Yes. Select the Race Details button above to see the course maps for all distances.

How do I check for, or add on, Race Day Bib pick up?

There will be no race day packet pickup at the event. 

Is there a time limit for any of the races?

Yes there are time limits. The Half Marathon has a walker friendly time limit of 3.5 hours and the Marathon time limit is 6 hours. Runners will be staggered at the start time based on pace. 

What is included in the registration fee?

With the registration fee you will receive entry in the race and official race swag. Finishers will receive a medal, finish line food and beverage, on-course support, and free race photos.

Where are the best hotels to stay?

Are there medal awards?

Yes. Medals will be awarded to all finishers.

Are there age group awards?

Yes, we will have an awards ceremony once most of our age group categories have filled in.

Where can I find the results?

The results will be posted on our Facebook Page and website by Monday afternoon.

Will there be restrooms along the course?

Yes. There will be port-a-johns located at various locations around the course, generally every 2 miles.

Will there be medical stops along the course?

There will be finish line medical and on course support at various locations throughout the route. Aid stations will have assistance.

Can I run with my dog or baby stroller?

No. USATF insurance does not cover strollers on the course, so they are not permitted.

Will there be pacers?

The Providence Marathon will have pacers running at marathon paces of: 3:00, 3:05, 3:10, 3:20, 3:25, 3:30, 3:35, 3:40, 3:50, 3:55, 4:05, 4:20, 4:35, 4:50, 5:05, and 5:20. The half marathon will have pacers running at half marathon paces of: 1:30, 1:40, 1:50, 2:00, 2:10, 2:20, 2:30, 2:40, 2:50, and 3:00.

Is there an age limit?

Marathon participants must be 18 years old on race day. Half marathon runners must be 16.

Can I check in my gear?

Yes. Gear check will open at 6:15 A.M. on race day and is free for all registered runners.

How do I get my free race photos?

We will have professional photographers on the course and at the finish line taking pictures. We will send notifications to all participants immediately after the event with instructions on how to access your free race photos.

Can I pick up a friends registration packet?

Runners need to show a driver’s license when picking up their race packet. When picking up a packet for a friend you need a signed note from the runner and a photocopy of their license.

Once I finish can I go back and run in with my friend?

No. If you cross the finish line twice the slower time will be recorded.

Can a friend / family member cross the finish line with me?

Due to the size of this race, it is allowed but not encouraged. We would like to give all our participants ample room to finish safely.

What are the AWD (athletes with disabilities) guidelines and event rules?

Ventures Endurance happily welcomes all athletes to participate in our events. Athletes with Disabilities (AWD) include, but are not limited to the flowing athletes, Blade Runners, Visually Impaired Runners, Adaptive / Guided Runners, Pushed Athletes, Push Rim, Racing Chair and Hand Cycles.

To participate as an AWD athlete you must notify the Race Director of your participation a minimum of 20 days in advance. This allows our staff to ensure the safety and security of each athlete on the course prepare the ES (early starters) corral for athletes. To ensure your spot and be approved as an AWD participant please contact awd@venturesendurance.com. Should there be a duo team, a coupon code may be provided for the pusher/coach by emailing awd@venturesendurance.com.

Is the Marathon USATF certified/Boston Qualifier?

Yes. The Marathon is a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon and is USATF certified.

Virtual Event FAQs

Where can I run/walk?

Anywhere! This is your virtual run, and we want you to complete it wherever and whenever you want between May 1- June 5, 2024. Sidewalks, trails, and treadmills are all fair game. Want to make this a family run or walk with a stroller or your miniature schnauzer Sprinkles? Now’s the chance! Make the race you want.

When do I need to complete my run?

You can complete your run anytime between May 1st – June 5, 2024 . Once you complete your run, you can log your results online. After that, you can download your Finisher’s Certificate, see how you rank on our active leaderboard, and upload photos to share with fellow participants.

How do I track my distance and time?

For the Virtual Run, we accept results on the honor system, but the most accurate tracking is typically via a device with GPS tracking.

How do I log my results?

After you’ve completed your run, click the Log Result button on your Virtual Run registration to enter your time. Once you’ve entered your run time, click the Finisher Certificate button to download your personalized Finisher Certificate.

Do I need to submit results to get a medal?

No. Your medal will be mailed to you with your packet after you register!

What items are included with the Providence Marathon & Half Marathon Virtual Run?

We’ll ship the same awesome goodie bag* right to you! Marathon runners will get a full zip premium wind breaker while Half Marathon runners get a high quality performance quarter zip! *The beer given to participants at the live event is not included in the virtual offering.

When will my packet ship?

Race packets for the virtual run will begin to ship within 1-2 weeks of the live event.

Do you ship internationally?

The Providence Full Marathon and Half Marathon Virtual Run are currently available only for addresses within the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii*. *Shipments to Alaska and Hawaii will incur an additional shipping fee.

What do I do if my goodie bag doesn’t fit? Can I swap it?

We do not offer any size exchanges post packet shipment. All changes to sizes need to be made prior to confirming registration. We highly recommend that all participants take care to view the sizing chart to order the correct size.
